2/10/25 Breaking the news...

Today I told my PM class.

I didn't know how they were going to react.

But I was raw. I was awkward. I got emotional. Mickey got emotional.

Some students immediately broke down. Other than that, the room was the quietest I think it has ever been.

Eventually the fog lifted and the hugging commenced.

Our lab is a community - we are educating future health care workers who already demonstrate care, compassion, and empathy.  So as this news was processed, the questions began.

How did you find out?
How long will you be out?
Do your boys know?
Are you ok?
When are you leaving us?
Are you in pain?
Can we come to the hospital to see you?
Can we come sit with you at chemo?

I hope that by sharing my story and answering questions as openly and honestly as possible, I can show the students how to face adversity with grace and courage.
