3/14/25 POD #15 > Surrounded by Positivity

My friend, Liz, sent me an extremely thoughtful care package yesterday.

My friend, Liz, who lives in VA.

My friend, Liz, who I haven't seen in 6...7 years?

My friend, Liz, whose wedding I was in back in 2007.

My friend, Liz, who supported me at my crazy rugby games, "LET'S GO WOMEN!!!"

My friend, Liz, whose apartment I used to crash in in Itahca as hers didn't include a creepy landlord (AND she had the best down comforter.)

My friend, Liz, who befriended me during our studies for our Master's degree from Ithaca College.

My friend, Liz, one of my best friends, regardless of distance or time.

...I called her immediately, and it was like we were back in 2005, making plans to grab food after class.

I miss her, I love her, and it was such a good feeling to chat with her.

Call your loved ones. Tell them you love them. Tell them you appreciate your relationship regardless of time or distance.

Today, Mickey, one of my colleagues, the sharer of my (our) classroom, and one of my bestest work besties, came to visit.

After hearing of my recent need for additional surgery I received this text,

"I’m taking exactly 1.2 seconds to be sad and then I’m moving on, but I needed to be close to you so I’m sitting at your desk. If you are up for a visitor tomorrow I can leave right from LCTI and we can ink together- not sure what your plans are.”

My plans are to be surrounded by positivity and those who boost my spirit and I, theirs 💗

Although we (there are 3 of us total as pictured above) each have our own students, we all work together to make our classroom our community. Mickey and I literally share a classroom. Jonell lives next door.

Our first couple of years the students called us, "Mom" and "Dad" > yes, I was dad. Jonell was "Aunt K".

Then they referred to us as the characters from Inside Out, 'Joy' (me) and 'Sadness' (Mickey). Jonell was 'Disgust' because she makes the faces so well, and our Dental colleague, Ewa, was 'Envy' because she is the cutest little thing and pulled it off perfectly.

But no, Mickey is not sad, Mickey is just less animated than I am ...can you imagine if there were two of me in a single classroom? The poor students.

When we first started, there was ONE desk in the room. We fashioned a desk for Mickey out of a long table and a chair. Guess where I sat? At my desk? Heck no, that was too far from Mickey (who was approximately 3 feet away). I brought my chair over and positioned myself at the corner of her desk so our toes could touch if need be.

Speaking of toes touching…

<We do work…I swear 🤔😬😬>

Personal space?  What is that...?!

Mickey was one of the first to hold me during a breakdown after a day of scheduling appointments and navigating this new path. She cries with me, she supports me, she made me my very own hand quilted Eagles blanket, she allowed me to play the Eagles fight song and wear Eagles gear the whole week (+) after the Super Bowl -- uniform? What uniform? I have cancer 🤣

She is the Yin to my Yang!

And because she sent this to me it is fair game...
