2/25/25 I'll see you in 6 weeks!

Since my students found out about my diagnosis I have just been showered with love, support, and GIFTS.

The kids are so deliberate and thoughtful in their gifts of what reminds them of me. I have gotten the cutest stuffed animals, best smelling lotions, fluffiest of socks, a fake poop pile, pens with curse words (while I did scold the student, I must admit "Thundercunt Thursday" on a pen was absolutely hysterical), so much of my favorite candy, lip balms, soft blankets, books from my book list they got ahold of, and the list goes on.

I thought I was overwhelmed with love and then today happened.

Today, the AM students threw me a F*CK Cancer surprise party.

From lama themed table cloths and homemade goodies decorated with breast cancer ribbons, personalized stickers ("She Fights, We Fight, Doc M"), balloons, MORE GIFTS, a slide show, a 4 hour personalized playlist...and so much more I am missing.....I don't even have words for it all.

All I kept thinking was...I do NOT deserve this! Like holy crud!

My cheeks HURT from smiling and laughing and crying. These KIDS. My community. My heart.

The school was sent an email to wear pink in honor of me. The students also wore pink...

....so much pink was everywhere.

The PM students continued the party. The entire day felt like I was hosting - consoling people - listening to stories of loved ones lost but also stories of inspiration and hope.

Our classroom was a revolving door of visitors. Admin. Teachers. Support Staff. SO MANY MORE FORMER STUDENTS.

As I hugged each student goodbye...wiping tears and easing fears, I had the same message:

"I'll see you in 6 weeks. I just have to take care of some business."

They will be fine. It may be a smidge quieter and a lot more calm,  but they will get used to the new normal until the Mariotti Tornado returns!

I also have to add that later this evening I had a number of visitors from so many aspects of my life. My family and I have just been incredibly blessed by the love and support of so many of you - thank you doesn't cover it but it's all I can keep saying right now. So if you haven't heard it from me yet....THANK YOU.
