Knowing that I enjoy reading, Jonell’s mom, Carol, had sent a bunch of books to me.
The excerpt below is from Still Life, by Louise Penny.
Carol had scribbled on the first page, “page 80”. I didn’t think much about it, but when I got to that page, this is what I saw she had underlined,
“We choose our thoughts. We choose our perceptions. We choose our attitudes. We may not think so. We may not believe it, but we do. I absolutely know we do. I’ve seen enough evidence, time after time, tragedy after tragedy. Triumph after triumph. It’s about choice.
“Clothes, hairstyle, friends. Yes. It starts there. Life is a choice. All day, every day who we talk to, where we sit, what we say, how we say it. And our lives become defined by our choices. It is as simple and as complex as that. And as powerful.”
Literally, this is ME. This is why I am the way that I am.
Because I CHOOSE to find happiness in things.
Because I CHOOSE to look for the silver lining.
Because I CHOOSE a mix of reality and positivity vs. negativity.
Some of my favorite sayings are:
*Find a Solution
*Choose Joy
*There are way worse things in life
You ALWAYS have a choice. It is your decision-making that makes you, you. It is your outlook and perception that can turn a negative into a positive (if you choose to do so).
Today I chose to go to my son’s outdoor soccer tournament that was an hour away. And it was 🥶 Could I have stayed home and just got updates? Sure.
But I know when I played sports one of the first things I did was look to the sidelines and catch the eyes of my parents. If it was an away game, I would always look for my dad’s white car and then see him standing there supporting me.
If my kid is out there in the rain, heat, snow, wind…as his parent, I need to be there to support him.
It brings me so much joy to support my bys, their teammates and coaches who work so hard for the sports they love.
So attending Logan's game was what I did.
That was my choice today.
